BEWARE of over the counter carpet stain removal products Boise Home Carpet Spots and Stains.

February 5th, 2008

What should you do when a spill or stain threatens to spoil your evening?

First and foremost, no matter what the cause of the carpet stain, it is important to remove it as soon as possible.  Especially with pet stains and please don’t use over the counter spot removal products because a majority of them can permanently set the stain.  In fact, just this week, I was out for a new customer that used a very popular over the counter product to remove a fresh spill.  She was able to get the stain out just fine, however the product damaged the carpet fibers and slightly bleached the area in which it was used.

Before you invite any carpet cleaner into your home, be sure that they have two very important industry destinctions to maintain the warrantee on your carpeting: The Carpet and Rug Institute Seal of Approval Service Provider and The Institute of Inspection, Cleaning, and Restoration Certification Certified Firm. The Carpet and Rug Institute (CRI), Based in Dalton, Georgia, is a nonprofit trade association representing the manufacturers of more than 95 percent of all carpet made in the United States, as well as their suppliers and service providers. We coordinate with other segments of the industry, such as distributors, retailers and installers, to help increase consumers’ satisfaction with carpet and to show them how carpet creates a better environment.” The CRI has instituted a Seal of Approval program for both carpet cleaning companies and the cleaning solutions and machines they use.

According to the carpet and rug institutes’ (CRI) website (www.carpet-rug.org), “CRI worked with an independent laboratory to test off-the-shelf spot removers and pre-spray solutions. Of the 25 products tested, only four cleaned a soiled carpet sample better than water. Some caused the cleaned carpet area to re-soil faster and — worse — some products damaged the carpet’s color and texture.”

“The CRI recommends to the consumer getting their carpet professionally cleaned to utilize the services of those recognized SOA Service Providers as the best way to guarantee your carpet is being serviced with only the best cleaning equipment. It is also the best way to make sure many of your residential warranties covering your carpet are being met as many of carpet manufacturers are now tying their warranties to the use of SOA products” and IICRC certified status. Visit www.carpet-rug.org for a list of SOA Services Providers.  (Ultimate Carpet Cleaning was the first CRI SOA approved cleaning company in Idaho and is the only CRI SOA approved company in the Boise Area.)

The IICRC (Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification) is an independent body that provides the finest, most complete technical training courses and seminars available to carpet cleaners and restoration (flood, mold and fire damage) in the industry. Your cleaner should be IICRC certified in any type of cleaning or restoration service they are providing you. IICRC Certification and Training is expensive and many companies cut corners when it comes to training their employees in the best and most effective cleaning methods. Each technician must earn their certifications through study, experience and successful completion of formal, written examinations. In addition to your technician begin certified, the carpet cleaning company should also be a certified firm by the IICRC. Before agreeing to have your carpet or upholstery cleaned ask to see written proof of the company’s and the technician’s IICRC certification. Any cleaner who has gone through the exhaustive and intensive training provided by the IICRC will be proud to show you proof of their certification. Visit: www.iicrc.org for a list of certified firms.

AVOID YOUR BOISE CARPET CLEANER AND HAVE BEAUTIFUL CARPETS

January 6th, 2008

In all truthfulness, you cannot avoid your carpet cleaner entirely and still have beautiful carpets. But you can extend the life of your carpet and have it cleaned less frequently by having Maxim Advanced carpet protector applied after cleaning.  Be sure to ask for Maxim Advanced; The world’s best carpet protector!

Does It Really Work? THE SCIENCE BEHIND IT.

A nylon stain-resist carpet is made with two protective properties. The first is an acid dye blocker that is basically a clear dye that fills the open dye sites on a fiber. Dye blockers help keep “foreign” dyes from penetrating the carpet fiber. The second is called a fluoropolymer and it helps keep spillage from actually getting to the dye blocker. But their biggest job is to resist dry soil, preventing the soil from bonding to the carpet and allowing your vacuum to be more efficient and your carpets cleaner, longer. Not enough “soil resistor” on the carpet leaves your traffic areas exposed to gritty soil that cuts and slices the carpet fibers. These two protective properties are removed 2 ways: With regular foot traffic over a period of 6 months to 2 years depending on traffic and by uninformed cleaners using extremely high alkaline cleaners. Cleaning agents at a pH of 10 or below does not remove a significant amount of protector.

5 Reasons to ALWAYS Get Maxim Advanced

1.) Makes spot and spill clean-up easy and painless; Reduce Permanent Stains

2.) Your carpet will last longer.  It reduces carpet wear and abrasion, especially high traffic areas; Help save traffic areas and Extend the carpet’s life

3.) Spots are easier to remove because it allows more time to clean them up.  The ability to clean them yourself allows you to avoid costly Service Calls.

4.) Next professional cleaning is more effective and you are protected against almost anything you can eat, drink, or track in.

5.) Vacuuming will be more effective and and is completely safe for your children and pets.

Boise Pet Stain Cleaning Procedure For Carpet

January 4th, 2008

While I love my dog as I’m sure you love your pets, there is probably only one thing that irritates me about having a pet: PET STAINS.

Pet stains are probably one of the hardest stains to figure out.  This is primarily due to the vast differences in diet and medication your pet may be on and the differences in the construction of the carpet.

For Feces Stains - Use a dull knife or similar object to remove as much as possible.  Be delicate as to not spread or force feces deeper into the fibers.   Steps continued below.

For Urine Stains - Use paper towels or a clean cotton towel to absorb as much urine out of the carpet as possible.  If it is a large stain, you will want to start from the outside of the stain to the center to prevent it from spreading.                          Steps continued below.

Next, mix 1/4 teaspoon of dish detergent or mild laundry detergent with 1 cup of water.  Apply detergent directly to a white cotton towel and blot the stain from the outside in.  (Avoid saturating the carpet because it will help spread the stain.)  Continue blotting the stain until no stain transfer to the towel occurs.  Next, mix 1 cup white vinegar with 2 cups water and saturate a new clean white cotton towel and begin blotting the area.  This step will help remove the detergent from the carpet.  Continue to rinsing and blotting until all traces of detergent are gone.  Once the stain is no longer apparent, place a dry cotton towel on the area and weight it down.  Allow the carpet to dry normally and periodically change the towel until dry.
